Exhibition "MEHL GRIES BETON" - the Rösselmühle in dialogue"
Since March 2023, students at the Institute of Cultural Anthropology and European Ethnology at the University of Graz have been researching the memories, experiences and stories surrounding the imposing construction of the Rösselmühle mill in the Gries district of Graz. They follow the traces of the mill into the past as well as the paths of flour and bread, and explore the industrial farming heritage along the mill race. At the same time, they accompany urban discourses on the preservation and revitalisation of the Rösselmühle as a meeting place, but also the process of its destruction.
Starting at Griesplatz, the exhibition travelled through the public space of Graz between 1 February and mid-March 2024. Visitors will have the opportunity to see the exhibition once again as part of the event "A celebration that transcends borders".

BrandMale: Education at the centre of destruction and healing
On the night of 9/10 June 2014, the terrorist group "Islamic State" captured Mosul, the second largest city in Iraq. In the course of the three-year occupation and liberation, the university and its central library were largely destroyed. Founded in 1967, it was one of the largest libraries in Iraq with hundreds of thousands of books, manuscripts and rare artefacts.
As part of the "Festival that transcends borders", the University of Graz is showing pictures by photographer Ali Yousif Al-Baroodi in the foyer of the university library that document the destruction of the library. At the same time, they give hope by showing how educational programmes in the first year after liberation are beginning to heal this intellectual wound.
