How much say do the people, society and you actually have?
The current special exhibition at the University Museums of the University of Graz, entitled “Experiencing Democracy. Your Voice. Your Choice. Your Future…” invites you to take a critical look at the history and present state of democracy. It offers insights into the very beginnings of the concept of democracy in ancient Greece, as well as the revival of this idea in the early modern period and its development right up to the present day.
How does democracy dance?
Have you heard of our Democracy Dance Act? – As part of the interactive guided tours at 7.00 pm and 8.00 pm (max. 20 people), you’ll become part of the current special exhibition on democracy!
Also worth a visit:
- From the information bubble to the voting booth: this special exhibition offers visitors of all ages the chance to explore what it means to live democracy in everyday life.
- Experiment stations: In the permanent exhibition on the development of physics research, you can test amazing forces using the world’s longest wave machine, the angular momentum chair and the Magdeburg hemispheres.
- Children’s programme: The children’s programme includes two interactive stations where, just like in the ‘court of the shards’, you can write on pottery shards in Ancient Greek or step into the shoes of a Greek politician.
- Annual theme: Women in Research: The new themed exhibition at UniGraz@Museum, which opens on 24 April 2026, showcases prominent women in research and draws connections to the University of Graz as well as to the exhibitions at the university museums.

Fancy a bit of construction site romance? A glimpse behind the scenes of the spectacular building sites around the Graz Centre of Physics and the House of Educational Sciences offers a glimpse of what the future of research and teaching in Graz will look like.
A distinctive architectural feature is the 33 steel trusses that will support the Graz Centre of Physics, enabling the ground floor, with its lecture theatres, to be completely column-free. The structural work is due to be completed this year. The roof will be completed in 2028, and the Institutes of Physics at the University of Graz and Graz University of Technology are set to move in as early as 2030.
The new School of Education is being built on the site formerly occupied by the medical institutes for hygiene and forensic medicine. The 125-year-old, listed building is being completely modernised inside and will in future offer space for around 1,000 students with six lecture theatres and eight seminar rooms. To this end, the top floor has been completely rebuilt and a glass gallery is being added in the inner courtyard to connect the floors.
